Office Space

This blog entry is dedicated to my workspace, which I have worked hard at getting to be a place that I will be comfortable working at for hours on end. This pictorial should be entertaining to both my family members and people interested in what an editor’s desk looks like. Right? The numbers indicate unique attributes worth mentioning.
1. The Banner, Framed.
The artwork for the banner we had at our comic-con booth was an excruciatingly rewarding process to bring together. When AMC hooked us up with some poster versions, I knew I needed it framed to commemorate the hard work put in by all. Funnily enough: my mom paid for the FJ as a b-day gift, and spent WAY too much. Let’s hope this show gets picked up for many seasons, and that I love looking at the actors’ faces for years to come.
2. I’m a PC Man, Again.
When I got hired as Robert’s editor, he and his business partner bought me a new computer. At the time, I was shy and didn’t know much beyond the world of apple products, so I told the office manager that I needed something with a big screen and lots of memory. What they got me- Clunky Spice. Nobody’s fault but my own, really.
3. Zombie Plush Doll.
This is one of two samples for our zombie plush doll that we will be selling exclusively at our booth during New York Comic-Con. Limited to 1200 pieces, with a removable head! Yeah!
4. Batman, Black and White, Frank Quitely Style.
It’s okay to rep other comic book merch, right?
5. Fry
If not, then I better throw this guy away.
6. Corenthal artwork.
This was my first page I bought from the Kirk-stable of artists. I was in Kentucky, Robert owed me money, so I literally had him give it to Cory Walker for two pages from Invincible Returns. When I’m on a long call, I just stare at Cory’s page, and get really annoyed by his economy of line. The bastidge.
7. To One Artist From Another
Li’l picture of Amy Sedaris. My friend got it for me at some BUST fair in NYC. The back is signed by Jerri herself: “To Sina, hard times/ good times.”
8. More From The Competition.
I love this stupid little Thing that Marvel put out. Any comic related merch with that Kid Robot vinyl deal is aces by me.
9. Morning Mocha, Iced.
Anyone who knows me knows that I need one of these to start the day. It’s a bad habit. Even during my trips to Kentucky, Robert would pick me up from the hotel, and take me straight to the Starbucks drive-thru.
10. The Notebook.
LISTS, FTW. Every day, I start a new page in the notebook, put the date at the top, and begin writing a list of things to do, and then highlight them once they’re done. If I’m really good, I’ll pull the stuff I didn’t finish from the day before and put them at the top of the list.
A piece of advice: you never will get everything done on the list. Every day ends at a deficit. The goal is to get as much of it done, as organized as efficiently as possible.
11. Invincible
This spread- in both pencil and ink form, a Cory Walker sketchbook, and Adam Hughes sketchbook, were the only things I got at San Diego Comic-Con. I love Ryan Ottley’s art so much. He, and every artist that Robert works with, make the job so the best. I can’t wait to get pages from Jason Howard, Ransom Getty, Charlie Adlard, etc. etc.
12. Best Wishes, Joe Mad.
Quite literally the only time I’ve ever abused my power as Robert’s editor was getting this sketch from Joe Mad. He came to the booth at Comic-Con, not to see Robert, but to see one of the booth workers he was acquainted with. In my moment of weakness, I rejected his offering to pay for a t-shrit, and said “you could do me a favor…”
And thus, a doodle of my favorite Battle Chasers character, Garrison, looking pissed as hell. Thanks, Joe!
13. My Queen
I keep this book on Alexander McQueen at my desk if I ever need to pull away from the job. As much as I love comics, if it ever becomes overwhelming, I can just get lost in some some pictures of crazy couture for a few minutes, and then jump back in.
En Fin.
Now, this may make the job look super easy, but I didn’t tag the three-month calendar of things I have to keep track of, the inbox that’s always teeming w/ e-mail, the various submissions I have to read, so on and so forth. I’m just showing off all the neat stuff that brings me happiness when it’s 8:00 PM and I want to go home
Enjoy,
S
